It’s All About Lighting!

It came as a simple brief…”Capture our LED face masks” Simple enough right?
Next request “Oh, and the LED’s need to be turned on, but we need to see the detail in the mask without the lighting blowing out and being over exposed“.
Time to get creative! So we start with getting the background exposed (or under exposed in this case) then we turn the LED’s on and adjust the exposure so they have the right amount of spill light come from them. Lastly we add soft lighting to the front of the mask.
Yes, this sounds easy when you read it however getting this right does take time. That’s why photo shoots can take several hours. Then of course there’s the editing too which takes time.
All together this photo shoot comprised of 7 different LED shades/colours. We had to capture them from the front, rear and sides as well as the machine they are attached too and how they look and work with clients. Several hours were spent on location and just as many editing.

Portraits with Punch

Why settle for the standard old head shot against a white background!? Let’s face it, so many people have boring photos of themselves – it is any wonder why o many loath having their photograph taken!

A unique and stylish portrait is not only a fun and creative shoot, it also has so much more impact, as you can see here. The man pictured is a marketing manager for a prestigious car company; and with his shirt, watch and the way we have set up the shot, he looks every part of his role!

Love what you see and want a unique portrait of yourself too? Of course you do! Contact us today on 0401 722 443 to book your shoot.

Double Cover!

I have been capturing images of transportation for almost 2 decades and over the years I have also driven buses, trucks and even trains! This has given me a better understanding of these machines, how they work and how they perform. From a photography point of view, it has allowed me to see them from both an industrial and creative way.

I work with a leading bus manufacturing company here in Australia as their Melbourne-based photographer. Over the years we have taken some amazing images across the state for their marketing team and 2019 has seen us travel to some stunning locations.

Recently my photographs were submitted by the bus company to two publications, along with editorials. Low and behold, the November issues of ABC magazine and Coach & Bus magazine have featured my images on the front covers. As a photographer there is nothing more exciting than to see your work published, however seeing it on the cover where hundreds and thousands of other people are seeing the images too – well that’s just a little more special.

Are you looking for a photographer with a great understanding of the transportation industry, or know some one who does need one? Give me a call today 0401 722 443 and we can discuss what I can do for your/their business.

Product Photography for Tea Tonic

Some of us love coffee, some of us love a stiff drink and others love a good cup of tea. I’m one of those who LOVE tea and so you could probably imagine my excitement when I was booked to take photographs of a selection of the excellent Tea Tonic range.
Tea Tonic ishoot image for blog
The brand is making its way into MYER stores across Australia and as such there was a need for high quality photography. The brief was simple; White background, no harsh shadows, evenly balanced lighting, sharp high resolution images and well saturated colourful images. While there are naive businesses that think they can get this kind of quality from using a smart phone, (I have to laugh because unless you’re a Photoshop wizard who specialises in making those ‘Shot on iPhone’ billboards, which 99.999% of people can’t do, then you simply can not use a photo taken on a smart phone) Tea Tonic is no such company.
A total of 31 different tea’s were captured over a duration of 7 hours. Yes, it really does take that long to do a product shoot properly to the highest of standards! Each tea box and tin (cady) had to be photographed from many different angles and then finally each tea had to have a ‘lifestyle’ shot. This is where the magic really happened, as you can see from some of the photos in this blog post. Scattering the tea leaves, positioning the packaging and making the image look just as mouth watering and tasty as a cup of tea itself too time to get right, however the results speak for themselves.
